How can I get to the practice?
The Listening Couch is located in the Dymocks Building at 428 George Street, in the heart of Sydney CBD near Pitt Street Mall and the QVB.
By train: St James, Town Hall, Martin Place (Train and Metro) and Wynyard Stations are all within easy walking distance.
By light rail: The QVB and Wynyard stops on the L2 Randwick and L3 Kingsford lines are both a few minutes' walk from the building.
By bus: Many routes run along George Street and York Street, with stops near the QVB.
If you'd rather not travel into the city, telehealth sessions are also available.
Are after-hours sessions available?
Yes! Thursday sessions run from 7:30am to 8:00pm, making early morning and after-work appointments possible, with no additional fee for after-hours sessions. Friday sessions are available from 8:00am to 3:30pm. Whatever your schedule looks like, get in touch and we'll do our best to find a time that works for you.
I'm not sure if I need therapy - can I still reach out?
Absolutely. You don't need to have it all figured out to benefit from therapy. If something feels off, you're feeling stuck, or simply want a space to talk things through - that's more than enough reason to reach out. I'm happy to have a chat to see if we'd be a good fit.
Do I need a referral to book a session?
No referral is needed to book a session. However, a referral from your GP along with a Mental Health Treatment Plan will entitle you to a Medicare rebate on your sessions.
What can I expect from my first session?
It is very normal to feel nervous before your first session. Your first session is an opportunity for me to get to know you, your reasons for seeking support, your current concerns and relevant background information to understand your situation. This is also a time where you can ask any questions you may have and together, we will discuss your goals for therapy and a plan moving forward.
How do I prepare for my first session?
There is no specific preparation needed - just come as you are. If it helps, you might like to jot down what's been on your mind or what you're hoping to get out of therapy, but this is entirely optional. The most important thing is simply showing up.
How many sessions will I need and how frequently?
The frequency and length of therapy is different for everyone and depends on the concerns you're facing and your goals. For some, a handful of sessions leaves them feeling equipped to navigate upcoming stressors or acute situations. For others with more chronic or long-term concerns, longer-term therapy is more beneficial. And for some, an ongoing outlet for support and maintenance helps them move through life and face challenges as they arise. The frequency of your sessions will be discussed in your first session and modified over time.
Is what I share in sessions kept confidential?
Absolutely. Confidentiality is at the heart of therapy. Everything discussed in sessions is kept strictly confidential. There are some legal and ethical exceptions, for example, if there is risk of serious harm to yourself or others, or if required by law, which will be available to read in our consent form and explained to you in your first session. Your privacy and trust are my highest priority.
Are telehealth sessions available?
Yes! We understand that attending in person isn't always possible. Telehealth sessions are available and conducted via a secure video platform, so you can access support from wherever you are.
What is the cancellation policy?
We understand that unforeseen circumstances can arise. Cancellations made with more than 48 hours' notice incur no charge. Cancellations within 24-48 hours will incur 50% of the session fee. Cancellations with less than 24 hours' notice will incur the full session fee. Missed sessions will incur the full session fee.
How do I pay for my sessions?
Session fees are processed online via Stripe the day before your session, where your credit card information is securely stored. There are no payment options available in person.
How do I access my Medicare rebate?
To access a Medicare rebate, you will need a Mental Health Treatment Plan and referral from your GP. Once you have attended your session and paid the session fee, the rebate will be returned directly to your nominated bank account. You are entitled to up to 10 rebated sessions per calendar year.
